The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has urged industrialists, employers, and members of the public to explore the growing potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing workplace safety.

The call was made during the NSITF’s Road Show commemorating World Safety Day 2025, held under the global theme, “Revolutionizing Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work.”

The event emphasized that AI is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day guardian of worker safety, with the power to prevent accidents, monitor risks, and even save lives.

From predicting hazards before they occur to equipping workers with intelligent protective gear, AI is rapidly transforming how safety is approached in Nigeria’s workplaces.

The Road Show followed a vibrant route through Kofar Doka, Kaduna Road, Kofar Kibbo, and Barewa College Zaria. It featured live demonstrations and interactive exhibitions that engaged the public and showcased how AI is actively reshaping occupational safety.

Attendees were introduced to AI-powered systems that analyze data patterns to detect risk in real time, automate safety inspections, and issue alerts before dangers escalate.

Speaking during the event, Engr. Ibrahim Mukhtar of the NSITF noted that Nigeria is entering a new era of safety innovation. “We are witnessing a revolution in workplace safety. AI is not only improving productivity but is now one of our most effective tools in preventing harm and saving lives.

This roadshow is about showing the public and industries that investing in AI-driven safety measures is an investment in human capital,” he said.

Key innovations on display included predictive AI platforms that assess worker behaviour and environmental data to preempt accidents, smart personal protective equipment (PPE) embedded with sensors to monitor health indicators and exposure to harmful substances, and digital platforms that enable real-time safety monitoring for remote or high-risk work environments.

The event attracted a diverse audience of industry professionals, students, and community members who showed keen interest in the role of digital technology in promoting workplace safety.

The NSITF reaffirmed its commitment to leading safety advocacy through innovation, urging industries to integrate AI tools as part of their standard safety practices.
