The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Osun State has commended the police in the state for assuring adequate security for local government workers resuming duty on Jan. 5.

The commendation is contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Osogbo by the NULGE president in the state, Mr Nathaniel Ogungbangbe.

Ogungbangbe said the assurance by the police had reassured workers and strengthened confidence in the ability of security agencies to maintain law and order across the state’s local government areas.

He particularly praised the police for their commitment to providing maximum security for lives and property as workers return to their duty posts.

According to him, the proactive disposition of the police reflects professionalism, responsibility and dedication to their constitutional mandate of safeguarding public peace and protecting lawful activities.

“The confidence expressed by the police has gone a long way in calming fears among our members and easing concerns about their safety as they resume work,” Ogungbangbe said.

He added that the stance of the police further reinforced the union’s belief in the capacity of security agencies to act impartially and decisively in defence of the rule of law and public order.

The NULGE president reaffirmed the union’s commitment to peaceful engagement, due process and responsible unionism.

Ogungbangbe urged members to cooperate fully with security agencies and to conduct themselves in a calm, lawful and orderly manner in the discharge of their official duties.

Similarly, Gov. Ademola Adeleke commended the leadership of NULGE for resolving to resume work, describing the decision as patriotic and people-oriented.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said the workers’ resolve to resume duty underscored the sensitivity of the labour movement to the yearnings and aspirations of the people at the grassroots.

According to the governor, the resumption of local government workers on Jan. 5 will herald a new phase of revitalised services and improved social delivery across the state.

“I also commend the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 11 and the Commissioner of Police in the state for their commitment to providing security cover for the lawful resumption of activities at the various council secretariats.(NAN)
