NUPRC Reports 2.05 Bcf/d Domestic Gas Delivery In 6 Months

Nigeria’s average Domestic Gas Delivery Obligation (DGDO) performance rose to 2.05 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) year‑to‑date to June 2026, the chief executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Oritsemeyewa Eyesan, has said.

Eyesan made the disclosure at a stakeholders’ workshop on a proposed Gas Swap Framework for DGDO held in Abuja. The workshop was organised to deepen industry understanding of the framework as a practical compliance mechanism and to gather stakeholder feedback.

Speaking through the executive commissioner for Development and Production, Enorense Amadasu,  Eyesan said DGDO remained a key instrument to ensure domestically produced gas supports the Nigerian economy. She said 27 of about 63 producing companies had DGDO allocations, but only 23 were actively supplying gas to domestic customers.

“Average domestic gas delivery stood at 2.05 Bcf/d against a 7C1 DGDO allocation of 3.16 Bcf/d, representing about 65 per cent performance,” Mrs Eyesan said. She added that the year‑to‑date June 2026 data show a broader allocation base does not automatically translate into actual deliveries.

“The delivery gap underscores the need for practical, innovative and market‑responsive solutions that protect the integrity of the obligation while enabling real physical delivery of gas to domestic users. It is in this context that the proposed Gas Swap Framework becomes especially important,” she said.

Eyesan said the Gas Swap Framework would allow operators with stranded or hard‑to‑evacuate gas to meet their DGDO by partnering with operators that have the infrastructure to deliver gas to market. “With the right commitment and implementation, the framework will help turn obligation into actual supply, make better use of existing assets, support gas‑to‑power delivery and build greater confidence in Nigeria’s domestic gas market,” she added.
