The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) said Wednesday it is targeting crude oil production of 1.9 million barrels per day (mbpd) after output reached 1.86 mbpd in May.
NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan announced the target during a meeting with Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji at the NRS headquarters in Abuja. Eyesan said the sector is recovering and production is “ramping up,” though she warned that sustaining growth will require addressing infrastructure gaps and improving asset integrity across upstream operations.
“We are back to production. We are ramping up now, and we want to continue working,” Eyesan said, adding that human capacity development remains critical to long-term expansion.
The meeting focused on closer collaboration between the NUPRC and the NRS to improve transparency, accountability and efficiency in revenue collection from the oil and gas industry. Eyesan praised recent reforms at the revenue agency and said digitisation of NUPRC operations—a central part of the commission’s reform agenda—has largely been achieved.
Dr. Adedeji pledged continued cooperation, saying the NRS will support royalty collection and other upstream revenue processes to boost transparent revenue generation for the country.
Eyesan emphasised the commission’s role in creating an enabling environment for investors and operators, saying: “We are here to enable their businesses, ensure that they survive, and that they succeed. And we want to grow the pie because when you grow the pie, everybody benefits.”
