A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi, has said the emergence of Dr Ben Nwoye as deputy national chairman (South) will consolidate the party’s gains across Southern Nigeria and strengthen its internal unity.
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, Ugwuanyi described Nwoye’s election as a significant step toward reinforcing the party’s foothold in the southern region.
He said Nwoye’s track record as a former APC chairman in Enugu State, coupled with his reputation as an inclusive, grassroots-oriented leader, puts him in a strong position to build on the party’s existing achievements.
“I wish to extend warm congratulations to the newly elected deputy national chairman (South) of the APC, Dr Ben Nwoye, following the conclusion of the party’s National Convention held on March 28, 2026, in Abuja,” he said.
“Dr Nwoye’s emergence marks a significant step in strengthening the party’s foothold in the southern region. His proven leadership and inclusive approach position him well to consolidate the gains already recorded by the party across Southern Nigeria,” he added.
Ugwuanyi also acknowledged the contributions of Nwoye’s predecessor, Chief Emma Eneukwu, noting that his tenure laid a solid foundation for the party’s growth and cohesion in the region.
He also highlighted the role of Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State, in expanding the APC’s influence in the South East, describing his efforts as strategic and impactful.
Commenting on governance at the state level, Ugwuanyi praised Peter Mbah of Enugu State for what he described as visionary and inclusive leadership, citing improvements in key sectors such as aviation, education, and healthcare as evidence of purposeful governance.
According to him, Governor Mbah’s approach to inclusiveness and stakeholder engagement had strengthened unity and boosted confidence in governance within the state.
While acknowledging that ongoing reforms by the APC-led Federal Government may pose short-term challenges, Ugwuanyi expressed optimism that they will ultimately deliver sustainable development and long-term benefits for Nigerians.
