The governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was conducted peacefully across all wards in the state, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emerging as the party’s governorship candidate.

The exercise, which attracted party leaders, stakeholders and supporters, was held simultaneously across various wards in the state and was described as orderly and transparent.

Announcing the results at a ward in Oha, Okpe Local Government Area, the returning officer, Chief Isaac Itebu, said the governor polled 4,759 votes out of 4,760 registered party members, effectively affirming him as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.

He described the turnout as a strong indication of widespread support for the governor within the party structure.

Governor Oborevwori, in his reaction, commended the APC leadership for what he described as a transparent, peaceful and credible primary election.

He also praised party members across the state for their unity, discipline and commitment to democratic principles, noting that the exercise should serve as a model for internal party democracy nationwide.

Speaking shortly after participating in the exercise in his ward in Oha, Okpe Local Government Area, the governor said the direct primary model adopted by the APC demonstrated genuine grassroots participation.

“There is the need to sustain unity within the APC. Reconciliation mechanisms would be put in place to address grievances and strengthen party cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Oborevwori said.

“Peace, inclusiveness and internal harmony remain critical to building a stronger political structure capable of delivering on its objectives.”

Also speaking after voting at Onicha-Ukwuani Ward 5, Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, urged Deltans to replicate the high turnout recorded during the primary in the 2027 general elections.

Onyeme described the large participation of party faithful as an endorsement of the governor’s administration and policies, adding that it reflected growing public confidence in the government.

At the ward level, the Returning Officer, Mr. Great Omulu, announced that 3,157 votes were recorded under the Option A4 voting system, with party members participating peacefully in the exercise.

The process further reinforced the APC’s message of internal democracy, unity and preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
