Octogenarian Commits Suicide In Adamawa

An octogenarian, Yakubu Mamza, has committed suicide inside an uncomplicated building at 80 unit housing estate in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, the state’s police imagemaker, confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP on Friday.

The incident came a few days after 22 years old Florence Vandi, a health worker i Girei Local Government Area of the state, committed suicide following the death of her boyfriend.

It was gathered that Mamza got separated from his wife two years ago and has been living alone, without wife and his children around him.

The police are investigating the matter, as no reason was established for the suicide, even the police had deposited the corpse of the deceased at Specialist Hospital morgue .

Nguroje advised people to always share their problems with neighbors and friends to avoid suicidal thoughts.

Professor Seed Owonikoko, a lecturer at the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, Modibbo Adama University, advocated for an increase in number of psychologists in the state.

Owonikoko also urged government to increase economic wellbeing of the people, especially during hard times to avoid people getting frustrated in the society.
