A coalition of Niger Delta groups has declared that the leadership style of the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has brought peace and stability to the Niger Delta region.
The coalition, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, said Ogbuku was also in a hurry to develop the region, hence his drive to unite the leaders of the region and get them involved in the commission’s scheme of things.
The statement was signed by the secretary-general of the Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), Ambassador Amain Winston Coterel and the coordinator of the Niger Delta Grassroots Development Forum (NDGDF), Elder Marshal Kunoun.
The coalition expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing the NDDC managing director and other capable hands to oversee the affairs of the interventionist agency at a time when everybody in the region was yearning for development.
“The people of the region, for the first time, can now see that the public private partnerships of the NDDC initiated by Samuel Ogbuku go beyond the IOCs, but something that will guarantee health, youth empowerment and education.
“This PPP is gaining a lot of interest from the people, and the NDDC under the management of Dr Ogbuku is understudying some of the proposals received – to make a careful selection that will benefit the whole region.
“Also, the progress recorded by the ongoing Project Hope programme of the NDDC, which is targeted at creating jobs and empowerment opportunities for the youths, and the Operation Light Up Niger Delta Communities which has illuminated several communities across the states of the region this Christmas holiday, is a pointer that many good things are going to happen in this regime.
“The MD’s body language, from what we are seeing, is to push the NDDC to gain global acceptance in terms of transparency, credibility and corporate image – in order to attract the needed investors and development partners to transform the region to a choice global business hub,” the statement read.
