The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has condemned the pipeline explosion in the Ohaji area of the state, which led to the loss of lives.
He expressed regret over the loss of lives resulting from the incident, stating that the frequent pipeline vandalism in the area was a cause for concern for the State government.
Security reports revealed that suspected vandals targeted oil pipelines at Obitti Rubber Estate in Ohaji. During their attempt to siphon the product into a waiting truck, an explosion occurred, resulting in the vandals being burnt beyond recognition.
The governor stressed that the State could not afford to be embroiled in incessant economic sabotage due to the activities of illegal oil bunkers. He noted that, besides the loss of lives, pipeline vandalism has dealt a serious blow to the state’s economy.
While commiserating with the families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident, the Governor advised the area’s youths to abstain from such nefarious activities. He also issued a directive to security agencies to ensure that the menace is curbed, if not totally eradicated.
Governor Uzodimma assured that his administration would continue to take the necessary actions required to protect oil pipelines running through the state.
