Caretaker committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has emerged as the substantive chairman of the party in the just concluded state congress of the party.
Okocha is also the member representing Rivers State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
He was elected yesterday through a consensus voice vote by delegates from the 23 local government areas of the state during the APC state congress at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt.
The election was observed by a representative from the national secretariat of the party, Dr Adoyi Omale and the Rivers State National Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga.
Chairman of the Election Committee and national vice chairman (South South) of the party, Chief Victor Giadom, thanked delegates for their show of friendship towards the party and described the process as peaceful.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected APC state chairman promised that with the new leadership of the party, APC is now ready to take over the Brick House and return President Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
Okocha thanked all those who stood by the party during its crisis period, noting that nobody was cajoled into supporting his emergence or voting of other executive members at the congress.
He promised that the APC will always cooperate with INEC as a party, in its activities and during elections in the state.
