The organisers of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have announced that the 2026 edition of the competition will be streamed live worldwide on M4STV, further strengthening the event’s growing international profile.

The race, scheduled for May 30 in Okpekpe, Edo State, remains a landmark competition in African athletics, having become the first road race in West Africa to attain World Athletics Label status.

Since its inaugural edition in 2013, the Okpekpe race has evolved into one of Africa’s premier road running events, attracting elite athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Nigeria.

The challenging 10-kilometre course begins at Apana Road and finishes in the hilltop community of Okpekpe in Edo North Senatorial District, featuring a demanding mix of steep inclines and tarred roads that has become a defining characteristic of the race.

Organisers revealed that this year’s edition will feature a strong line-up of gold-level elite runners alongside Nigeria’s leading road athletes, with the competition’s Gold Label recognition and prize incentives continuing to attract international participation.

Media and Activation Director of the race, Dare Esan, said the competition has firmly established itself as a recognised fixture on the global athletics calendar.

“Okpekpe has become a fixture on the global calendar since 2015 and continues to showcase Nigeria’s capacity to host world-class events,” Esan said.

The organisers noted that live coverage of the race will be available through M4STV’s website and mobile applications, including Google Play Store, Apple App Store, Roku and Amazon Appstore, allowing athletics enthusiasts across the world to follow proceedings in real time.

Commentary for the broadcast will be handled by an experienced athletics journalist and member of the World Athletics Media Study Group, a move expected to enrich viewers’ experience with expert analysis and insight.

The race also boasts impressive performance standards. Kenya’s Daniel Simiu Ebenyo holds the men’s course record after clocking 28 minutes and 28 seconds, while Kenya-born Kazakhstani Caroline Chepkoech Kipkirui set the women’s record of 32 minutes and 38 seconds during the ninth edition in 2023.

Beyond athletics, organisers said the event has continued to contribute significantly to tourism and investment in Edo State, with Okpekpe’s scenic hilltop landscape and agricultural potential attracting visitors and investors alike.

With global streaming now confirmed, the 2026 Okpekpe International 10km Road Race is poised to deliver another memorable spectacle while reinforcing Nigeria’s reputation as a capable host of major international sporting events.
