The Arewa PDP Support Group, an umbrella body of all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) support groups in Northern Nigeria has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and various security agencies to be very fair, transparent and professional in discharging their constitutional duties during the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
According to a statement in Kaduna and jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Hon Aliyu Adamu Aliyu and National Secretary, Hon Desmond Minakaro, the PDP group warned against the repeat of last Edo State governorship election where it claimed that the results uploaded on the INEC IReV were different from the collated results.
It expressed the concern that when justice and fairness seem to be lacking on the side of public officers saddled with responsibilities, such injustice sometimes result to citizen’s lack of confidence in such an organisation which it noted may one day trigger social disturbances.
The group then called on Bola Tinubu to caution the electoral body and security agencies on the need to provide a level-playing ground for all political parties to participate without fear, intimidation or favour.
The statement however applauded Tinubu’s intervention leading to the release of detained minors held over the August #EndBadGovernance protests.
It advised the president on the need to always apply policies that have human face, noting that the citizens were in serious hardship due to some harsh policies introduced by his government such as the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies and the devaluation of naira.
They further called for the suspension of the planned tax reforms, as suggested by the National Economic Council (NEC), describing it as untimely.
The statement also called on all eligible voters in Ondo State, especially those of the Arewa extraction, to massively vote for the PDP candidate, Agboola Ajayi, for good governance, security and social justice for all.
The group further advised all PDP agents, canvassers and well-wishers to ensure that the results from polling units are correctly recorded and uploaded to the IReV, and to also guide the results from the polling Units, Wards, local government areas and to the State Collation Centres until the correct and final results are announced.
