His Imperial Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo Kingdom in Ondo State, was on Saturday installed as the pioneer Chancellor of Federal University of Technology in Babura, Jigawa State.
The investiture of the pioneer Chancellor held during the second Matriculation Ceremony of the newly established University of Technology Babura, held at the permanent site of the institution on Saturday.
In his acceptance speech, the pioner Chancellor said the power bestowed on him was a call for great responsibility in supporting the nation’s education development.
“I promise to do my best in supporting the build-up and advancement of this young institution which we hope to become a center for knowledge, innovation and character building, to provide brilliant minds who will turn ideas into reality for unity, peace, growth and sustainable development of the nation,” the monarch declared.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sabo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, said 560 students were matriculated for the 2023/2024 academic session, a little higher than 401, the number of the first matriculated students.
The VC commended the effort of the Federal Government, TETFund, Jigawa State government, the host community, and other stakeholders who have contributed to the take-off of the young University.
He, therefore, charged the newly matriculated students to abide by the rules and regulations of the University by shunning cultism, exam malpractice, indecent dressing and other social vices.
Professor Birnin Kudu warned that the University will not be hesitant to punish any student found wanting even as he assured of their commitment to ensure moral and academic excellence.
For his part, the Visitor to the University, President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, charged the pioneer Chancellor to put in his immense experience in supporting the development of the University and the Nigerian education sector at large.
He explained that the Federal Government was determined to expand opportunities for accessing higher education in order to produce qualitative manpower, which will help Nigeria in attaining a prosperous future.
