Youths in Ondo State have praised the minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, for what they described as impactful community development efforts, particularly the ongoing expansion of a renewable energy streetlight project across parts of the state.

The youths, under the Coalition of Ondo Emerging Leaders (COEL), said the initiative is transforming both urban and rural areas by enhancing nighttime visibility and improving security and social well-being.

Speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital, the chairman of the coalition, Oluseye Akintunde, said the latest phase of the project has recorded significant installations across several communities.

He noted that 100 streetlights were installed in Obiringba Town along Irese Road, 50 in Ogun Ajobo Community, 33 in Shagari Village, and another 50 along Irese Road, improving illumination in previously dark areas.

He further disclosed that 233 streetlights were installed around the Police Headquarters SIB–Seat of Wisdom Catholic Schools axis in Alagbaka, while another 233 units were also deployed in Imafon Community.

‎Akintunde added that additional installations have been completed in several inner-city areas, including Odopetu, Odige, Oke Padi, Otutubiosun, Igboliki, Ijeminkin, Irowo, and Hospital Lane, covering both central and grassroots communities.

‎He praised the minister’s engagement with young people in the state, describing it as impactful and development-driven.

According to him, the streetlight project is not only improving security but also stimulating economic activity and restoring residents’ confidence.

‎He said, “The minister’s efforts continue to change communities in the state with these renewable energy streetlights. This is a bold and forward-thinking project that not only enhances security but also encourages sustainable development.

‎”The initiative is already changing the urban landscape of Akure, stimulating economic activities, and restoring confidence among residents.”

‎He further called for expanding the initiative to more communities, stressing that access to reliable lighting remains essential for safety, productivity, and social well-being.

‎The coalition reaffirmed its support for people-focused development programmes and commended the minister for his commitment to building safer, more sustainable communities across the state.
