All eyes will be on Victor Osimhen when Galatasaray host Liverpool in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie on Tuesday night, with the Nigerian superstar poised to etch his name into Turkish football folklore.

The stage is set for a monumental European night in Istanbul as the Yellow-Reds look to gain an advantage against the Premier League giants.

For Osimhen, the encounter presents a golden opportunity to match a record that has stood for over a decade. The in-form striker is currently just one goal away from equaling the record for the most UEFA Champions League goals scored in a single season by a player representing a Turkish club.

The benchmark was set by former Galatasaray and Turkey forward Burak Yilmaz, who famously netted eight times during the 2012/13 campaign.

Osimhen, who arrived in Istanbul with a reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal finishers, has already amassed seven goals in this season’s competition.

His contribution has been instrumental in Galatasaray’s deep run. The Nigeria international was the driving force behind the team’s dramatic playoff round victory over Serie A heavyweights Juventus, showcasing the power, pace, and predatory instinct that has made him a nightmare for defenses across the continent.

Tuesday’s clash at the electrifying RAMs Park is not just about individual accolades for Osimhen, however. The striker will be the focal point of Galatasaray’s attack as they seek to topple a Liverpool side known for their own attacking prowess.

The Turkish champions will be drawing confidence from their recent history with the Reds; the two sides met in the group stage, where Galatasaray secured a famous 1-0 victory on home soil.

With the record firmly in his sights and a quarter-final place on the line, Osimhen will be desperate to lead his team to another famous European night under the lights in Istanbul.
