Twelve political parties have formed an alliance to challenge the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026, in Osun State.

It was learnt that the concerned parties resolved to work together and adopt a consensus candidate at a strategic meeting held over the weekend at a popular hotel in Osogbo, Osun State.

Our correspondent gathered that during the meeting, the parties agreed on the need to put their strength, resources and political influence behind one candidate who, by collective support, stands a strong chance of emerging as the next governor of the state.

The alliance reached by Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Young Progressives Party (YPP), among others, is aimed at presenting a formidable and united front in the upcoming election.

The parties, in a communiqué signed at the end of the meeting by the chairmen of the parties and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, agreed to pool their resources to unseat Governor Adeleke.

They, however, urged eligible individuals who have not perfected their registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take advantage of the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise to do so.

The parties that have yet to name their consensus candidate noted that Osun State deserves a governor who can deliver the maximum dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
