The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked Governor Ademola Adeleke to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for his political challenges ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

The party also said Adeleke’s endorsement of President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election should not be used as an excuse for failing to prepare for his re-election bid.

The APC made the remarks in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, while reacting to the governor’s allegations of political victimisation, arrests and killings involving members of the Accord Party.

Adeleke had, during a campaign rally at Olorunda Local Government Area of the state on Monday evening, criticised President Tinubu over alleged failure to intervene in what he described as politically motivated arrests and attacks on Accord members.

The governor also cautioned Oyetola against what he alleged were attempts to undermine democracy through the instigation of violence.

However, Olabisi dismissed the allegations, accusing Adeleke of engaging in a blame game and attempting to gain public sympathy ahead of the election.

He said the governor should focus on addressing challenges he created rather than blaming the federal government for his political difficulties.

According to the statement, “we want to remind Governor Adeleke that his recall of the endorsement of President Tinubu as his presidential candidate in the 2027 election wasn’t forced on him and such his decision would not be the reason why he should not be prepared for a free, fair, credible and inclusive forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

“The unsubstantiated allegations of the puppet Governor Adeleke who covers his inadequacy by resulting to dancing when injection of intellect is needed against President Tinubu and Oyetola are misplaced and frivolous as such amount to making a justification for his imminent defeat in the forthcoming governorship election.

“One would have expected the sinking governor to state in his needless political inciting statement session at the rally to give the reasons why he has made the state Government House a refuge for the political hoodlums who have been on the wanted list of the police and why he has been empowering the dangerous political thugs with juicy political appointments.

“The main problem with Governor Adeleke is that competition is strange to him which is the reason he is crying of political persecution all over the place without any tangible proof to establish his frivolous allegations.”

The APC spokesman further claimed that the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would rely on competence and performance to win the election.

Olabisi accused Adeleke of focusing on foreign engagements instead of governance, alleging that the governor had been “wining and dining and frolicking with women of easy virtues across the globe in the name of sourcing for illusive foreign investors for close to four years.”

The August 15 Osun governorship election has continued to generate political tension, with the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led state government trading accusations over governance, security and electoral conduct.
