Panic broke out in the Olaiya area of Osogbo, Osun State, on Saturday night following sporadic gunshots heard in the area as results of the governorship election were being uploaded.

Residents were seen running for safety as the sound of gunshots heightened tension in the area.

The incident occurred shortly after voting had ended across the state, with polling unit results being uploaded and the collation process getting underway.

The cause of the gunshots was not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.
