The elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Dr Deji Adeleke, has donated N500 million to the Osun State Security Trust Fund, even as the state government launched it with N300 million.

Announcing the donation on behalf of the Osun State government, Governor Ademola Adeleke said the amount was a start, as he commended the disposition of individuals, corporate organisations and stakeholders who have been contacted about the project.

He disclosed that the Fund is designed to provide sustainable funding for modern security infrastructure, adding that, through it, the Government establishes a modern Situation Room with real-time CCTV surveillance and continues providing operational tools required by security agencies, among others.

Adeleke, who assured donors of strict accountability, transparency and due process in the management of the Fund, beckoned on the private sector, financial institutions, development partners, professional bodies and all sons and daughters of the state to partner with it.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Hastrup, who Alhaji Lateef Bakare represented, called for the establishment of a regional security outfit to enhance grassroots security.

The monarch stressed the need to involve traditional rulers more deeply in security matters, as they are not only closer to the people but also deeply committed to the security of their domains.

Welcoming guests to the occasion, the special adviser to the Governor on security matters, Prince Samuel Ojo, said the Security Trust Fund established by law is designed as a collaborative platform for mobilising resources from the private sector to complement the Government’s efforts in security.

Ojo commended the security agencies in Osun State for maintaining a peaceful environment and admonished residents to cooperate with them to tackle insecurity.
