The people of Osun State have been charged to embrace peace as only acceptable atmosphere to ensure resolution of political and communal disputes in the state and among feuding communities.

A humanitarian, Omooba Adeyemi Victor Adegbuyi gave the charge recently when he presented palliative items to widows in Oke-Ana Ijesha of Oriade local government area of Osun State through his AVA Foundation.

He said, “The recent political crisis and territory tussles in Osun State is an ugly distraction and must be addressed carefully for restoration of peace.”

Omoba Adegbuyi also stressed the need for all political stakeholders and community leaders to embrace peace and look forward to the future with hope.

Speaking on the recent local government crisis in the state, Adegbuyi urged the youths to resist being recruited as weapons of violence in the hands of bigwigs, encouraging them to rather protect their future and aspirations in the atmosphere of peace.

“The LG crisis in Osun State is as a result of ambiguity in the interpretations of the court judgements which could be resolved through judicial clarifications without resorting to violence,” he said.

Speaking on the weekend’s violence that broke out over land tussle between the Ilobu and Erin Osun communities, Adegbuyi expressed deep sorrow and called on traditional rulers and other notable community leaders in the affected communities to call their subjects to order.

“It is quite appalling and so depressing to witness the carnage perpetrated by the actors in the crises in terms of destruction of property and killings over dispute that could be amicably resolved.

” This is not who we are. It is not for nothing that Osun is called the state of Omoluabi – gentlemen’s state. I believe that something has gone wrong. I hope they will heed the order by Governor Ademola Adeleke by sheathing their sword and allow peace to reign.

“No one benefits anything from crisis that will only reverse the development of the communities that are themselves begging for same. Giving peace a chance is the only alternative to this conflict since every conflict will still end at the roundabout. The affected communities must reflect on the consequences of not embracing peace on the children and generations coming after them,” Omoba Adewuyi appealed.
