About 2,048,840 children are expected to be vaccinated against Measles-Rubella in Osun State soon.
The state commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, who disclosed this at the vaccination awareness campaign press conference in Osogbo, said the exercise will be carried out in the 30 local government areas and area offices.
According to him, all children aged 9 to 14 years are eligible for the 10-day vaccination exercise, which will run from January 27 to the 5th of February 2026.
Though there is no outbreak of Measles-Rubella in Osun State, Akintola said the state government’s unwavering commitment to protecting the health and well-being of children informed the proactiveness in early prevention through vaccination, which remains the most effective protective measure to stem infections.
His words: “Measles–Rubella vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine that provides protection against both measles and rubella. It works by strengthening the child’s immune system to prevent infection and interrupt disease transmission within our communities across Osun State.
“All children aged 9 months to 14 years are eligible to receive the vaccine during this campaign, irrespective of previous immunisation status. The target eligible children of Two Million, Forty Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty( 2,048,840) will be vaccinated unless severely ill at the time of vaccination”.
The commissioner called on parents, caregivers, community and religious leaders, school authorities, traditional rulers, and the media to support the life-saving intervention by ensuring that every eligible child in Osun State is vaccinated against measles and rubella.
