A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has appealed to Nigerians not to lose hope in the face of the country’s security challenges, expressing confidence that insecurity will eventually become a thing of the past.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye urged citizens to remain calm and continue supporting the Federal Government and security agencies in ongoing efforts to restore peace and strengthen national security.

According to him, the government is intensifying actions against criminal activities and remains committed to protecting lives and property across the country.

He said President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day message, where he declared zero tolerance for terrorists and their collaborators, demonstrates the administration’s resolve to tackle insecurity decisively.

Oyintiloye also referenced the President’s warning to bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terrorism to surrender or face the consequences, saying it reflects government’s determination to end violent crimes.

He acknowledged the pain being experienced by families affected by kidnappings and attacks across different parts of the country.

“We share the pain of parents, families and relatives of victims currently devastated by mass abductions, especially schoolchildren, and the continued killings by terrorists. It is a tragic situation, and no one would wish such experiences on themselves or their loved ones,” he said.

Despite the challenges, the APC chieftain urged Nigerians to remain optimistic and continue supporting efforts aimed at rescuing victims and bringing perpetrators to justice.

He stated that intelligence and security agencies are actively working to identify and prosecute those responsible for acts of violence, insisting that criminal elements would not be allowed to threaten the nation’s peace and stability.

Oyintiloye expressed confidence in the competence and professionalism of Nigeria’s security personnel, saying they have the capacity to defeat criminal groups and restore lasting peace.

He further advised service chiefs to review and strengthen operational strategies where necessary, stressing that urgent action remains critical.

The former lawmaker also called on state governors to complement the Federal Government’s efforts by providing greater support and resources to security agencies operating within their states.

While acknowledging the President’s constitutional role as Chief Security Officer of the country, he noted that governors and local government authorities remain closer to communities and should take more proactive steps in strengthening local intelligence and maintaining peace.

Oyintiloye stressed that sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity, adding that economic growth, infrastructure development, investment and effective social services depend largely on a peaceful environment.

He urged citizens to stay vigilant, support security agencies with timely information and continue to pray for peace, unity and progress across Nigeria.
