The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has cleared road setbacks around Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty road, Oke Ado, Ibadan, demolishing illegal structures, towing obstructing vehicles, and impounding livestock in a sweeping enforcement operation.
The exercise followed the expiration of a 21-day demolition notice served on occupants. Structures removed for contravening environmental and urban planning regulations included water tanks, shanties, and makeshift stalls erected on public setbacks.
Speaking, the chairperson of OYRLEA, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (Rtd.) stated, “Public setbacks are not extensions of private premises.
“The state will not tolerate encroachments that endanger pedestrians, degrade infrastructure, or undermine urban order. Our policy is clear: issue notice, enforce compliance, and sustain the gains. Anyone who rebuilds or reoccupies cleared spaces will face the full weight of the law.”
OYRLEA confirmed that enforcement would be sustained across critical public facilities in the state.
The authority warned residents and business operators against erecting illegal structures, obstructing walkways, or trading on road shoulders, stressing that compliance protects lives and preserves public assets.
