A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Hon. Bode Obanla, has dumped the major opposition party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).

Obanla who said his defection marked the end of the PDP in the entire Akoko land, noted that those who are yet to dump PDP are just wasting their time.

At a press conference held in Akure, the state capital,  Obanla and his  supporters said they were tired of being in the opposition party after 15 years.

He said contrary to insinuations,” I and my team are not moving because we have been wronged by any of our leaders or the entire leadership or shut out of the party.”

According to him, “ If anything, we held the ace. We were still able to decide in conjunction with other stakeholders on what side the PDP pendulum swung in the state.

“We are the most privileged. But there comes a time in the life of a man when he must begin to think not for himself alone but for posterity. I have come to that stage where I must think not just about myself but just in terms of the impact I make for my local government, my senatorial district, and my state at large.

“I have concluded that I must now come to the progressive fold, that is currently in power at every stratum of government, if indeed, I wish to contribute to the development of my people.”

While saying that the decision to move was not. a very easy one for him and his followers, Obanla said, “We have carefully studied the antecedents of the progressives, the governor of our dear state, A kurin Odunayo Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, “Mr talk and Do” whose strong character, open-mindedness, courage and bluntness continue to leave in awe.

“As an opposition politician then, I should not but commend the way “Aketi” handled the security threat that reared its ugly head in our state. His pushed for the creation of the Western Nigerian Security Network (Amotekun), and his ever-present and reverberating voice for the Yoruba race during the turbulent times all endeared him to me.’’
