The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has cleared a governorship aspirant, Mr. David Usman Dinshiya, to contest in the party’s forthcoming primary election in the state.
Dinshiya was screened on Tuesday in Abuja by the PDP screening committee led by former Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
Speaking shortly after the screening exercise, Namadi Sambo, who was represented by former Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, said the PDP had repositioned itself to remain competitive and prepared to win elections across the country.
The former vice president noted that the PDP has maintained a strong political presence in Taraba State since the return of democracy in 1999 and urged party aspirants and supporters to build on the party’s existing structures ahead of the governorship contest.
According to him, the PDP remains deeply rooted at the grassroots in Taraba, with its political influence spanning the state’s 168 wards.
“Taraba has been a PDP state. We have established strong grassroots support across the state, and our structures remain intact.
“I urge all those cleared by the party to take advantage of these structures and work towards reclaiming our mandate in the coming elections,” Sambo said.
Reacting after the screening, Mr. David Usman Dinshiya expressed optimism over his clearance and described it as a major step in his ambition to contest for the governorship.
He said he joined the race to provide purposeful leadership and accelerate development in Taraba State.
Dinshiya pledged to deploy his experience and youthful energy to address key developmental challenges facing the state if elected governor.
