A renowned philanthropist and passionate advocate for education, youth, and women development, Dr (Amb) Halima Suleiman Zakari, has donated N50,000 cash to support 85 young girls each, who were treating Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), mostly as a result of sexual abuse, underage marriages and childbirth.

Dr Zakari made the donation through her non-profit organisation, Nana Halima Empowerment Initiatives, when she visited Jahun Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) Hospital in Jigawa State during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration

VVF is an opening that develops between the bladder and the wall of the vagina. The result is that urine leaks out of the vagina leading to a bad smell. In fixing this, most women will need to have a catheter in the bladder for a few weeks while the surgical area heals.

Dr. Halima went round the wards in the General Hospital, Jahun, and gave the cash support to the patients on their sick beds.

Dr. Halima recently visited her alma mater, Federal Government College (FGC), Kiyawa, Jigawa State, where she donated ₦30 million for the renovation of both girls’ and boys’ dormitories. This generous contribution aims to enhance the learning environment and promote the welfare of students in the school.

Also, during the Jigawa State Citizens Engagement Program, Dr. Halima supported 30 orphans who got married with a token of N100,000 each to start up a small business. This gesture was extended to making them economically active in their communities.

As part of her Sallah outreach, Dr Zakari distributed comprehensive Sallah welfare packages to residents across the seven Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Jigawa Central Senatorial District. She celebrated the Sallah Durbar alongside the Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi, she paid homage to the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, the Galadiman Dutse Alhaji Basiru Muhammadu Sanusi, amongst other stakeholders.

The Sallah packages included food items, clothing materials, financial support, and other essential household items. The initiative targeted vulnerable groups, including widows, orphans, women, and the elderly, ensuring that they could partake in the festive celebrations with dignity and joy.
