Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday, paid a visit to the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School in Tungan Nasara in Abuja, after receiving reports of the school’s poor sanitation conditions.

Obi, who posted this on his Facebook page on Friday, disclosed that he had just returned from Rome, where he held a series of meetings.

He said he was informed of the situation by Dr. Moses Paul, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the AMAC chairmanship election, which is scheduled for February 21, 2026.

According to Obi, Dr. Paul drew his attention to “the plight of a public primary school in Tungan Nasara, FCT, that has been struggling with extremely poor toilet facilities.”

Moved by the report, the former Anambra State governor said he immediately visited the school to see the situation firsthand.

“I was deeply saddened by the deplorable condition of the facilities, especially the toilets, which pose serious health risks to both pupils and teachers,” Obi said. “No child should be made to learn in such conditions.”

As an immediate response, Obi made a personal donation of ₦2 million to support the construction of proper toilet facilities and to improve the overall learning environment at the school.

He also promised to revisit the school to ensure that the funds were properly utilised and that the project was completed.

Obi reiterated his long-standing position that education remains the most vital investment for Nigeria’s future.

“Our children are the future of our nation. Their learning environment must reflect the value we place on that future,” he said. “As leaders, we must continue to prioritise education and the welfare of our young ones, ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to a decent education in a safe and healthy environment.”

He added that education “remains the most critical investment in our nation’s development,” and concluded his statement with his familiar call for reform: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
