The Kano State Police Command has arrested 157 suspects and recovered a large cache of drugs, firearms, and stolen property in a major crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
The operation which spanned four weeks was part of the intensified efforts of the new Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori who assumed office on March 17, 2025.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, CP Bakori said that among the arrested were three suspects found in possession of 19 fabricated revolver rifles and 114 live cartridges.
Bakori said the weapons which were allegedly transported from Plateau State were intended for use by criminal gangs operating within Kano and neighboring states.
He added that acting on credible intelligence, operatives raided hideouts in Kuntau and Gwale, uncovering the syndicate’s network and intercepting their planned operations.
In a separate operation, police intercepted a truck loaded with cement bags concealing six cartons of suspected tramadol tablets valued at over ₦150 million.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the consignment, which was reportedly being transported from Sokoto and destined for Jigawa State.
The suspects are said to have confessed to their roles in the drug trafficking ring.
The Commissioner also disclosed that 24 suspects were arrested for armed robbery, 79 for thuggery-related offences, and 14 for drug dealing.
Bakori said other suspects were apprehended for crimes ranging from motorcycle and motor vehicle theft to criminal conspiracy and possession of stolen property.
He further explained that the command’s strategy relies heavily on intelligence-led policing, joint operations, and community engagement.
The CP further noted that the recent operations led to the recovery of two English pistols, a fabricated pistol, 117 rounds of ammunition, several sharp weapons, and other illicit substances including ampicillin tablets, “suck and die” liquids, and exol tablets.
Two vehicles, three motorcycles, and two tricycles were also recovered during the period under review.
He cited a specific case in which two suspects were arrested while attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Hilux linked to a car theft in Abuja.
In another incident, a notorious thug who had long terrorised the Kadawa area of the state was apprehended with a sharp knife and quantities of cannabis.
CP Bakori commended officers of the command for their dedication and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative in providing actionable information.
He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to sustaining the momentum through continuous patrols, surveillance, and stakeholder collaborations aimed at improving the overall security situation in the state.
The CP added that some of the suspects have already been charged to court while investigations continue in other cases.
