Plateau Governor, Mutfang, Moves To End Crisis In Nasarawa PDP

Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has initiated a peace-building process to resolve internal conflicts within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State.

Our correspondent reports that some key stakeholders in the Nasarawa chapter had gone to court recently to stop the Francis Orogu-led state executive council from holding the party’s congresses.

The stakeholders include the incumbent senator representing Nasarawa South, Senator Mohammed Onawo, a former senator from the zone, Suleiman Adokwe, a former minister of state for justice, Musa Elayo, and General Angbazo, among others.

However, Mutfang, at a meeting with all the stakeholders in Abuja, urged them to prioritise peace and unity, emphasising the need to confront common enemies of democracy together.

The governor constituted a committee to facilitate dialogue and reconciliation, co-chaired by the former minister of information and culture, Mr Labaran Maku, and the former minister of state for justice, Barrister Musa Elayo.

The committee members include Mr Francis Orogu, Sen. Suleiman Adokwe, Major General Nuhu Angbazo (rtd), Dr Mike Omeri, Mr Luka Zhekaba, and Mr Mohammed Adamu Oyanki.

At the end of the meeting, a position said each group in the conflict is expected to add two representatives, making it a five-member team.

Governor Mutfwang’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Mr. Latep Dabang, is expected to serve as an advisory member.

He directed that all congresses and litigation be put on hold pending the committee’s outcome.

A report by Mr Taimako Sunday Anyuabaga, a party stakeholder, said the committee is expected to foster an all-inclusive dialogue and promote fairness and honesty in addressing contentious issues that led to the crack in the state chapter.

“This development is a welcome step towards peace and unity in Nasarawa PDP. Governor Mutfwang’s leadership and commitment to reconciliation are commendable. The success of this initiative will strengthen the party’s prospects in future elections,” Mr Anyuabaga stated.
