Plateau Killings Are Systematic

Former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep (Rtd) has stated that the continuous attacks on communities in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs of Plateau State are coordinated, systematic and appear very deliberate to wipe out the people from their lands.

Wuyep made this known while speaking with the newsmen in Jos.

He described as deeply painful the recent wave of deadly attacks in the state, which he said is ethnic cleansing that should not be tolerated in a civilised society.

“I want the world to know that the attacks on innocent persons in the state are not herders and farmers’ clash. Was it on the farm that people were killed in Bokkos and Bassa? Was there a clash? If so, between whom and whom? We know that the locals were attacked and killed, so if it is a clash, with which group of people?” he asked.

Wuyep further stressed, “What is the identity of these people. This is a terrorist attack, and the security must fish out the perpetrators.

“These killings have been going on for a long time, and I think the time to stop these senseless attacks on rural communities is now. This issue has to be addressed as quickly as possible.”

According to him, the governor has shown a lot of concern over the attacks in the state while appreciating the effort of the president to direct security agencies and NEMA to respond with relief materials for the victims.

“The government should not allow our communities to turn into killing fields. For me, these incidents are not isolated; they are coordinated acts of terror aimed at instilling fear, displacing our people, and ultimately undermining the right of the people to coexist peacefully in their ancestral lands.

He maintained that they needed to rally around Governor Caleb Mutfwang, adding that this was not a political issue. “Today it is Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and tomorrow it may be a different person.

Let us come together and fight this menace. Let’s speak to the concerned authorities to take urgent steps to end the killings.”
