The commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Baamlong, during a press briefing, said the meeting is scheduled to be held in Jos to review progress, share experiences, and agree on actionable strategies for transforming the health sector across the state.

According to him, the council would focus on three critical sub-themes: Strengthening resilient and inclusive health systems, improving access to essential medicines, and improving maternal and neonatal outcomes in rural areas.

The commissioner also disclosed that the meeting will bring together key stakeholders from the 17 local government areas, including directors and senior health officials, representatives of development partners and donor agencies, civil society organisations, and community leaders.

Dr. Baamlong commended the subcommittees’ efforts to ensure the smooth coordination and delivery of the event.

He also called on all stakeholders and members of the public to take a keen interest in the council, noting that the deliberations and outcomes will shape the trajectory of health delivery in Plateau State for years to come.

“The Executive Governor of Plateau State Barr. Caleb Mutfwang will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and declare the council open. The State government has invested heavily in the health sector, with a focus on making healthcare accessible and affordable to all citizens.”

Meanwhile,  executive secretary of the Plateau State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Raymond Juryit, in his remarks said  the state government’s efforts towards the health sector are yielding results, with all primary healthcare facilities receiving drug supplies and monitoring to prevent diversion.

He further pointed out that the state government has also made delivery kits and equipment available for free, reducing the burden on expectant mothers and encouraging them to deliver in hospitals rather than at home.

Dr. Jurit added that the 11th Plateau State Council on Health promises to be a turning point in the state’s mission to reposition its health system, and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the deliberations’ outcome.
