Police operatives in Enugu State Command’s Central Police Station have arrested two suspected kidnappers identified as Ejike Okorie and Christopher Kindness both of Ameke Ngwo, Enugu North local government area.
It was gathered that a mob had earlier intercepted the suspects before the police swift intervention, beat them up and set ablaze their operational minibus at the P-and-T Bus stop, Okpara Avenue, after an alarm was raised over the victim’s abduction.
The operatives arrested the suspects and rescued their female victim thereby saving them from jungle justice.
A statement by the police spokesperson in Enugu, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that a mob earlier intercepted the suspects before the police swift intervention, beat them up, and set ablaze their operational minibus at the P-and-T Bus stop, Okpara Avenue, after an alarm was raised over the victim’s abduction.
“A preliminary investigation showed that the suspects confessed to the crime. They stated how they and others at large have been perpetrating the criminal acts of ‘one-chance’ robbery, abduction and fraudulently obtaining money and other belongings from unsuspecting victims within Enugu metropolis.
“The suspects will be arraigned in court and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
“The commissioner of police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, commended the police operatives for their quick intervention, thereby preventing the mob from killing the suspects under the guise of jungle justice,” he said.
