Men of the Kwara State Police Command, on Tuesday, arrested three suspected vandals and armed robbers in Ilorin, the state capital.
The suspects were arrested at Asa Dam/Dangote axis of Ilorin metropolis by a squad of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The spokesperson of the Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement.
She said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were part of a wider network responsible for criminal activities across key locations in Ilorin metropolis.
“In line with the strategic policing initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu aimed at strengthening intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention, the Kwara State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success through the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
“Acting on sustained surveillance and credible intelligence, following recent concerns raised by members of the public over suspected criminal activities within the Asa Dam/Dangote Road axis, operatives of the VCRU in the early hours of Tuesday, 27th May 2026 swiftly responded to suspicious movements around the Tanke area of Ilorin, leading to the arrest of three suspects linked to a criminal syndicate involved in vandalization of government-installed solar light infrastructure and armed robbery-related activities within Asa Dam/Dangote Road axis.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are part of a wider network responsible for criminal activities across key locations within Ilorin metropolis. Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made pistols, pliers, and various suspected hard drugs, believed to be used in the commission of their criminal activities.
“Further intelligence-led efforts are ongoing to identify, track, and arrest other members of the syndicate as well as their receivers,” she added.
