The Police in Nasarawa State have apprehended 38 suspected miscreants in connection with the protest that ensued following the Supreme Court verdict on Friday.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Umar Shehu Nadada, disclosed this in Lafia, adding that 29 motorcycles were also recovered from the arrested individuals.

Mr. Nadada revealed that those detained had violated the peace accord signed by the leadership of the two major political parties in contention, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The accord had asked supporters to refrain from any actions that might lead to a breach of peace during and after the judgement.

He stated that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the state to unveil the identity of their sponsors.

“Those suspects arrested are currently with the command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), helping the police with useful information to enable us to identify their sponsors. As soon as the command identifies those behind the crisis, they will be arrested and prosecuted,” he explained.

Protesters had previously blocked the Lafia-Jos Road around the area close to the State PDP secretariat, obstructing motorists’ access when the outcome of the judgement became public knowledge.

The CP warned that the command would decisively deal with anyone attempting to cause a breach of peace in the state.

He urged parents to rein in their wards and called on the general public to go about their lawful business without any fear of molestation.
