Police Arrest 4 Over Alleged Car, Phone Theft, Others In Ekiti

Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested four suspects in connection with criminal Offences bordering on car and phone theft, as well as abduction and sexual assault.

The suspected car thieves who were apprehended by the operatives of Anti-Vehicle Theft Section (AVTS) of the Command were identified as Taiwo Johnson and Ibrahim Aderinto.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, SP Abutu Sunday in a statement said the duo conspired to steal one Toyota Corolla 2009 model from where it was parked at the owners compound in Ilomu-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of the state.

Abutu said police operatives trailed and arrested the suspects at Kajorepo-ibadan in Oyo State after the complainant reported that his vehicle was stolen by thieves from his compound on January 3, 2025.

“The suspects, during investigation, confessed to the commission of the crime and led the operatives to recover the stolen vehicle,” the statement read..

The Command implores everyone to be conscious of their environment and report any suspicious person found within their environs to the Police.

Police also urged members of the public, especially car owners to be conscious and practice all car security measures such as registering with the Force Central Motor Registry (CMR), installing tracking device, parking in the best places possible and installing tyre locks, amongst others.

The police spokesman also said that one Miracle Peter of Oke-Ibedo area of Ilawe-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti South-West local government area of the state was arrested with the phones suspected to have been stolen.

Abutu said, “Upon a credible tip-off on 24/01/2025 at about 17:00hrs that a habitual phone thief was in Fayose Market attempting to sell off three stolen phones, the Ado Central Divisional Police Officer (DPO) swung into action, sent operatives to the axis .

“During investigation, the suspect confessed that he stole the phones from three different owners at Ifaki-Ekiti. One of the owners was contacted who immediately came to reclaim his phone while effort is ongoing to identify the other owners,” Abutu said.

Also, the operatives of the Division arrested one Ayomide Jinaidu of Omisanjana Area of Ado-Ekiti for abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year old girl.

“Investigation revealed that the victim was on her way to school when the suspect accosted and lured her into his house where she was kept and sexually harassed for about five days. The suspect made confessional statement to that effect.

“In view of the prevailing incidents of rapes, sexual assaults and other cases of Gender Based Violence, the Command enjoins parents and guardians to warn their wards to be mindful of where they go, those they meet and the relationship they keep.

“Victims are also advised to speak out immediately to enable the Police take immediate necessary action”.
