In a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism financing and armed banditry, the Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a suspected notorious drug peddler accused of supplying illicit substances to armed bandits operating in the state.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Eze, alias “Dunbuje,” was arrested on July 15, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM by operatives attached to the Central Police Station in Funtua.
According to the statement issued by the command’s spokesman, Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu, the arrest followed a targeted intelligence-led operation, adding that during a search conducted immediately after his arrest, officers recovered 500 tablets of D5, a controlled illicit substance, from the suspect’s possession.
He added that preliminary investigations indicate that Eze had established a supply chain trafficking drugs directly to bandits and criminal elements terrorising Funtua Local Government Area and surrounding communities.
The authorities believe this drug network played a critical role in sustaining bandit operations by keeping fighters intoxicated and operational.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives work to dismantle his broader distribution network, trace the original source of the drugs, and identify potential accomplices.
He will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, praised the operatives for their professionalism and swift action. He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to cripple criminal networks by severing their logistics and drug supply chains.
CP Fage also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, actionable intelligence to assist law enforcement in curbing crime across the state.
