Operatives of Anambra state Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old suspected female drug dealer identified as Chinyere Onwuka alongside five others.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga named other suspects as John Kennedy Onwuka, 36 years; Chidiebere Onyeze, 30 years; Echeazu Nonso, 35 years; Osita Chukwu Chialuka, 21 years, and Nnebedum Wisdom, aged 25 years and all males.

Ikenga, in a statement on Saturday said the suspects were arrested by a team of the operatives attached to the Special Cultism Squad, Obosi Sector in the early hours of Friday, 30th May, 2025 following a credible information.

The police spokesman said the suspects were arrested in Isuaniocha, Awka North local government area of the state with large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be hard drugs and other incriminating hard substances recovered from them.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu frowned at the relative rise in drug consumption by youths, noting that drugs were “oxygen that drives most crimes and bad behaviour exhibited by individuals”.

CP Orutugu also expressed willingness to step up advocacy against illicit drugs through a Police Campaign against cultism and other vices (POCACOV), a programme he explained was targeted at sensitising the youths on the dangers of drugs and other vices in the state.

SP Ikenga disloses that the suspects would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Awka, for further necessary actions.
