Police Arrest Suspected Robber, Recover Arms, Charms In Akwa Ibom

In the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have smashed a suspected armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate, arresting one of the ring leaders with firearms and charms.

Disclosing this to journalists at Command’s Headquarters at Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, the State capital, yesterday, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Timfon John, said the operation followed a quick response by the operatives to credible intelligence volunteered by the residents of Midim Clan, Abak local government area.”

She said, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another operational breakthrough in its sustained offensive against armed robbery and other violent crimesStacrimes on credible intelligence in the early hours of Thursday, 14 May 2026, operatives of Command, while on routine patrol at about 0300hrs, received reliable information regarding a notorious syndicate specialising in robbing unsuspecting motorcycle operators at gunpoint within Midim Clan and its”environs.

“Upon receipt of the intelligence, the operatives swiftly mobilised and stormed the criminal hideout in a coordinated operation.”

 

“On sighting the Police team, the suspects attempted to flee. However, one suspect identified as Uduak Vincent, 28 years, a native of Ikot Ifang village in Midim Clan, Abak LGA, was successfully chased down and” arrested.”

DSP John listed incriminating items recovered from the suspect to include one locally – made pistol, one small axe, one knife, charms suspected to be used for criminal fortification, six wraps of substance suspected to be Indian hemp, two button phones, three bottles of ICE, three rings, one Airtel SIM card, and one multi-coloured handbag.

Meanwhile, two other members of the gang, according to her, escaped into nearby bushes during the operation, adding that “efforts are currently in top gear to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

DSP John, however, expressed the Commissioner of Police’s commitment and determination, stated the State’s commitment to addressing criminal elements and warned all violent offenders to either repent or be prepared to face decisive police action.

 

“The Command is therefore urging residents to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, assuring that all reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
