The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of six worshippers from a Celestial church along the Uso/Owo Expressway in Owo Local Government Area of the State.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday February 25 at about 12:50 a.m. According to him, the victims were taken to an unknown destination by the assailants.

Jimoh said security operatives swiftly responded to the incident following a distress report. “Upon receiving the report, operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” he stated.

He added that the joint operation has already yielded results, with one of the abducted worshippers successfully rescued.
“Additionally, one suspected informant linked to the incident has been arrested and is currently assisting with ongoing investigations,” Jimoh said.

The police spokesperson assured that security operations were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
