Police Confirm Arrest of 9 Suspected Killers Of PDP Chieftain In Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of nine suspects over the killing of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Thomas Godwin, popularly known as Zamfara.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje stated this while reacting to a viral video alleging torture and coercion while investigating the suspects.

The Command said it became aware of the video where the suspects – Umar Ibrahim, Sarkin pawa and Kala’a alleged that they were arrested, tortured, starved, and coerced into making false confessions in connection with ongoing investigation into the murder of Godwin.

The Command said it launched investigation into the alleged killing, leading to the arrest of the nine (9) suspects including Sunday Terrang, Umar Ibrahim, Sadiq Ishaku and Solomon Gideon.

He named others as Ahmed Aminu, Danlami Ali, Godwin Chakukuyada, Akacha Daniel Samari and Ibrahim Bakari.

The police added that the suspects and the case file were transferred to the Force Intelligence Rapid Response Team (IRRT) in Abuja after preliminary investigation for further investigation.

Nguroje refuted the allegations of torture, adding that at no point was the rights of any suspect violated.

He added that all arrests, interviews, and procedures were conducted in accordance with the international best practices and standard investigation procedures.

The PPRO further said that the trending video was a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, attract undue sympathy and undermine the credibility of the Command’s professional ethics.

“While we respect the rights of individuals to speak freely, we advise against spreading falsehoods that may be misleading and possibly jeopardise the ongoing investigations,” Nguroje said.
