Rivers State Police Command has debunked reports of the death of two suspected car snatchers who were attacked by a mob in Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday.
The suspects had stabbed a vehicle owner along Stadium Road in Port Harcourt and attempted to rob him of his car when the mob descended on them and beat them up mercilessly.
It was gathered that the hoodlums attempted to snatch a Toyota Corolla car from a bolt driver after stabbing him.
It was further gathered that the bolt driver raised the alarm, which attracted the mob who beat the hoodlums to coma before the arrival of the police.
The police public relations officer in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, while responding to inquiries from newsmen said the duo are in coma and are receiving treatment in an disclosed hospital.
Iringe-Koko explained that based on a distress call received by Elekahia Police Division, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and her men rushed down to the scene where they rescued the victim (owner of the car) who was stabbed by the suspected robbers as well as the hoodlums from the mob.
She stated that the team took the trio to the hospital for medical attention, pointing out that the two suspects were also in coma as at the time the police team arrived the scene.
