The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has deployed Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale Etaifo to Osun State as the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
Force PRO CSP Ani Iniedu said in a statement that the deployment forms part of the police’s comprehensive election security strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process in the state.
CP Etaifo will coordinate and oversee all election security operations across Osun State, working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to protect voters, election officials, and sensitive electoral materials throughout the exercise.
The police clarified that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, will remain the substantive head of the command and continue to oversee routine policing activities while providing the necessary administrative and operational support to the election security commissioner.
The Force also reminded all personnel deployed for election duties to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, impartiality, and strict adherence to the law, including compliance with the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty.
Meanwhile, the inspector-general of police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu urged residents of Osun State, political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure a safe, credible, and successful governorship election.
The police said the deployment underscores its commitment to providing adequate security and maintaining public confidence throughout the electoral process.
