The Yobe State Police Command has dismantled a suspected criminal syndicate involved in burglary, theft, and phone snatching in Damaturu, arresting seven individuals and recovering stolen items.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Tuesday, who said the operation was carried out by operatives of ‘A’ Division in Damaturu between April 16 and 19, 2026, targeting crime-prone areas including Nayinawa, Bindigari, One Million Road, and Pompomari wards.

Police identified the suspects as Usman Mohd, 20, of One Million Road; Abubakar Adamu, 20, of Nayinawa; Mohd Ibrahim, 22, of Bindigari; Mohd Goni, 19, also of Bindigari; Khalifa Mohd, 19, of Gwange; Abubakar Mohammed, 19, of Forestry Ajari Ward; and Ali Mohammed, 23, of Abari Ward, all within Damaturu.

According to the Command, the suspects confessed during interrogation to their involvement in multiple crimes. They admitted to “a series of burglary, theft, and phone snatching incidents” across the affected communities, and further disclosed that they had stolen “seven (7) Android phones and two (2) keypad phones,” with six of the devices already recovered.

The Police Public Relations Officer said investigation is ongoing “with a view to prosecuting the suspects accordingly.”
