The Lagos State Police Command has interrogated the Lead Pastor of the House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, for allegedly brandishing a gun-like object in his car against a pedestrian in Lagos.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday, said Pastor Adefarasin was interrogated by the command’s detectives at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, after he turned himself in.

Hundeyin said, “No one is above the law, Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja and is currently being interrogated by detectives who have commenced investigation on the case since a video surfaced online showing the pastor holding a gun-like object against another road user, while driving in an unregistered vehicle.”

The police image maker noted that the outcome of the investigation will be made public thereafter.

LEADERSHIP reports that the incident gained viral traction last week on X (formerly Twitter) when a video surfaced showing Senior Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church, Lagos, holding a metallic object while confronting a content creator who was filming his black Range Rover allegedly without licence plates in traffic.

The video on X showed Pastor Adefarasin winding down his tinted window, expressing displeasure, while holding an object interpreted by many viewers as a firearm.

While the videographer quickly apologised as the car drove off, the video quickly went viral, igniting accusations on social media that the pastor had brandished a gun to intimidate the individual.

Consequently, Pastor Adefarasin addressed the controversy and denied the allegations in a social media statement and also during the Sunday church service when he said, “That was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”

He dismissed the incident as “mischief” and a “misunderstanding”, buttressing that he neither owned a firearm licenxe nor carried a gun, while insisting that the backlash was an orchestrated plan by the forces of darkness fuelled by ‘clickbaiters’ seeking profit from online traffic.
