Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers during a security operation and recovered an AK-47 rifle, pump-action guns and ammunition from them.

The operation was carried out by police operatives as part of the ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in different parts of the state.

According to the report, the operatives encountered the suspected criminals during the operation, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the two sides. Two of the suspects were fatally wounded during the encounter.

Other members of the suspected group reportedly escaped from the scene.

The police have since intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The recovery of the firearms is expected to assist investigators in their efforts to establish the activities of the group and determine whether the weapons were used in previous criminal operations.

The development comes as security agencies in Anambra continue to step up operations against criminal elements operating in the state. Kidnapping and other forms of violent crimes have remained a major security concern, making intelligence gathering and police patrols important in protecting residents.

The police command has also called on residents to remain alert and provide useful information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities. The command said security operations would continue across the state as efforts are made to track down other members of the suspected group and prevent further criminal activities.

The latest operation is another indication of the police command’s continued efforts to disrupt criminal networks and recover illegal firearms being used to carry out violent crimes in Anambra State.
