A senior police officer in Bauchi State on Friday personally donated N310,000 to resolve a tense standoff that led to the blockage of the Bauchi-Jos Road by truck drivers in the Miri area of Bauchi metropolis.

Police public relations officer (PPRO), Bauchi State Command, SP Nafi’u Habib, confirmed this to reporters in a statement made available to reporters in Bauchi.

He said the incident “occurred at about 8:45 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, following a report received by the Bauchi State Police Command through the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Chapter, indicating that truck drivers had barricaded the busy highway.”

The PPRO added, “Upon receipt of the information, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), ‘B’ Division, Bauchi, CSP Holman Simon, in collaboration with the Officer in Charge of Operation Restore Peace (ORP), CSP Abdulrazak Padah, was immediately deployed to the scene.”

He said preliminary investigation revealed that a truck driver travelling from Jos to Bauchi was stopped by officials of the Federal Government haulage revenue unit and asked to pay the stipulated levy.

He explained that when the driver failed to stop immediately, a blocking device was reportedly placed in front of the moving truck, saying “the driver ran over the object, resulting in a burst tyre and a heated confrontation.”

Habib said in reaction to the incident, other truck drivers mobilised and blocked the road in solidarity with their colleague, causing severe traffic congestion and disrupting movement along the route.

“To de-escalate the situation, CSP Holman Simon reportedly engaged the drivers through dialogue and calm persuasion. After listening to their demands, the DPO personally paid the sum of ₦310,000 to the affected driver to enable him to replace the damaged tyre.

“Following the intervention, the truck drivers peacefully dispersed, and vehicular movement along the Bauchi–Jos Road was fully restored. The police also confirmed that two suspects were arrested in connection with the breach of public peace,” the statement read in parts.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the professionalism and leadership displayed by the officers involved.

He also appreciated the residents of the state for their continued support and cooperation with the police.
