Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have raided a suspected cultists’ camp belonging to a notorious cult leader, “General Danger” at Ebrass community in Ahoada-West local government area of the state, killing one of them.

The state commissioner of police, Emeka Nwonyi, who disclosed this to journalists in Port Harcourt, the state capital, said “General Danger” and another notorious cultist, “Double Chief” narrowly escaped.

Nwonyi said one AK 47 rifle, five magazines loaded with 51 live ammunition, GPMG live ammunition and assorted charms were recovered from the camp while efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

He also said operatives of C41 intelligence unit of the command in case of kidnapping and murder arrested a suspect who ran to Ogun State after participating in killing of the late Justice Azundah, the protocol officer to the immediate past chief of staff, Rivers State Government House, Emeka Woke.

The police boss said the suspect confessed to have collected N2 million before the victim was murdered.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have collected a ransom of N2 million through a bank transaction from the family of the victim, before he was murdered.

On June 4, 2023, operatives raided the camp of the kidnappers located in Isiodu/Elibrada Forest. On July 20, 2023, members of the gang engaged the police operatives in a gun battle during which one suspect was fatally wounded while others escaped with gunshot injuries. The fatally wounded suspect was identified as one Chinedu Azunda M, popularly known as Omo, aged 36 years, a native of Isiodu Community in Emohua local government area.

“One pump action gun with a bag containing 22 rounds of live cartridges was recovered from the scene. Investigation is still in progress, as every effort to recover other operational weapons and arrest of the fleeing suspects is ongoing,” he said.

Also, operatives of the C4i Intelligence Unit who responded to distress call of a robbery in Ikwerre Road, in Port Harcourt City local government area, and snatching of a black color Lexus SUV, swung into action and arrested the suspects.
