Three more bodies of victims of a boat mishap in Anam River, Anambra State, have been recovered by marine police operatives of the Anambra State police command.
The disaster had on Wednesday claimed a popular Nollywood actor, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope.
The public relations officer of the Anambra State police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed the recovery of the three bodies said that one was recovered early Friday while two bodies were earlier recovered on Thursday evening.
Though the police spokesman did not provide any details about the identities of the recovered bodies in a statement he issued yesterday, he however stated that the three bodies were of those who got drowned along with Junior Pope when their boat capsized on Wednesday in Anam River.
Ikenga further disclosed that the state police command had already deposited the recovered bodies in a mortuary at a nearby Asaba area, and had also notified the president of the Guild of Actors and Actresses about the latest development.
Ikenga added that the commissioner of police in the state, CP Aderemi Adeoye has mourned the deceased and notified family members of the deceased persons.
CP Adeoye urged commuters to always be conscious of their safety while embarking on water travels by observing the necessary marnie travelling protocol so as to avoid the sad fate that befell Junior Pope and his co-travellers on the Anam River disaster.
CP Adeoye also assured that the marine operatives of the state police command would carry out a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances that caused the capsizing of the boat.
