Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, in synergy with other security forces, have rescued a kidnapped female victim and neutralised a suspected kidnapper.
The operatives also recovered exhibits during the operation that took place in Udenu local government area on April 3.
Spokesman of the Police in the state, SP Daniel Ndukwe who confirmed the successful operation followed the receipt of credible information on the abduction of the victim at about 3:30pm within Ezimo community of Udenu LGA.
Ndukwe disclosed that on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Udenu promptly mobilised a joint security team comprising Police operatives, soldiers of the Nigerian Army, Neighbourhood Watch, and Forest Guards, who trailed the suspects to Agu Orba Forest along Ohebe-Orba axis of the local government.
He added that Upon sighting the operatives, the hoodlums opened fire, but the operatives responded with superior firepower, neutralising one of the suspects, while others fled with varying degrees of severe gunshot wounds.
“Meanwhile, intensive operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he added.
The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery and synergy of the security operatives and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to rid the state of violent criminal elements.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
