Akor, a police orderly to APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was hit by a bullet when suspected political thugs clashed as reinstated deputy governor Phillip Shaibu’s convoy and Okpebholo drove out of the Benin airport.

The command in a statement by the public relations officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, commiserated with the family of the slain officer just as it urged the public to be calm, assuring that the investigation will unravel those behind the attack.

“It was said that Rt. Hon. Philip Shuaibu and Sen. Monday Okpebholo arrived at Benin Airport from Abuja where their supporters rallied round to welcome them.

“Suddenly, some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs emerged with guns and other dangerous weapons and started shooting sporadically. In the process, bullets hit a Police Inspector Insp Onuh Akoh of No. 45 Police Mobile Force Abuja attached to Sen. Monday Okpebholo. The Police Inspector gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital for treatment and his body was deposited at the military hospital in Benin City.

“The CP wants to use this sad moment to appeal to the general public to remain calm, continue to be law-abiding citizens, and go about their lawful businesses that the Police and other Sister Security agencies are in firm control of the security situations in the state.
